Some of us, who\u2019ve worked in the graphic design field for a while, had started with the Quark Xpress on Macintosh.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, many of our files are created in Quark Xpress 6.5. there comes a time though that we need to use texts from Quark Xpress 6.5 in other programs like Ingesign, Quark 7, 8 or9, Word, or even our Outlook. We try to transfer the texts by copying and pasting them, which sadly doesn\u2019t work. Even on the newest Quark editions the text can open but we cannot edit it; we can\u2019t correct it, change fonts or in any way work on it. This occurs because on Quark 6.5 and older versions we used Type 1 and TrueType fonts, while now we use open type fonts.<\/p>\n

There is a solution!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Copying this kind of texts requires two things. First of all our system must be MacOS 10.4 and secondly the GrHelvetica font must be installed in our system. (Of course the computer must have the Quark installed so that the file can open)<\/p>\n

The process is quite simple. We turn all texts we want to copy in the GrHelvetica font and this way we can copy and paste monotonic Greek texts in any kind of program.<\/p>\n

However, this doesn\u2019t work with polytonic texts or systems with MacOS versions newer than 10.4. I personally have kept an old G4 computer with Quark 6.5 and MacOS 10.4, so I can make these changes.<\/em><\/p>\n

On the following post we\u2019ll talk about transferring polytonic Greek texts from an old Quark version. The process is not that simple.<\/p>\n

Tip: If except for Quark 6.5 you also have the Quark 4, it can be very useful. Quark 4 files can be directly read by Indesign only by changing the font to GrHelvetica.<\/em><\/p>\n
